Eyeless in Gaza

By Aussiegirl

With the United States media obsessed with Natalee Holloway there is a
looming showdown brewing in the Gaza strip. Reporters on the scene are
reporting that settlers are not prepared to leave and are preparing for
a velvet type revolution. They plan to greet the soldiers sent to
evacuate them not with guns but with flowers (almost all the flowers in
France and most of the flowers available in Israel are grown in the
Gaza). In addition, supporters are reportedly streaming into the area
to add to the numbers who will passively resist.

Meanwhile, there are also reports that IDF soldiers are refusing to
carry out orders and are defecting to the side of the settlers. To
carry out the planned withdrawal, Israel is bringing in large yellow
painted cages which will be filled with people, loaded onto the backs of
flatbed trucks, and hauled out of the desert. It is hard to imagine how
the army can manage to carry and remove such a large number of
protesters.
Radio talk show host, John Bachelor, who is currently in Gaza, reports
that what is happening on the ground there is simply not being reported
in the West. Also he reports that Iran and Al Qaeda and Hamas are
already preparing to move in. The availability of a seaport offers them
a perfect staging ground for major terrorist attacks. It will be ironic
if having removed the Taliban and Al Qaeda from their staging areas in
Afghanistan that Israel, and by extension the United States which
supports this pullout, will be creating a new Afghanistan in Gaza. The
prospect of so many Israelis being evicted by other Israelis may well be
a tragedy in the making. This is an important story that deserves a lot
of attention. Meanwhile, American TV wastes time on a missing teenager
in Aruba.

If you are able to get the John Bachelor show on the radio, it is one of the most worthwhile talk shows around. I have been of two minds about this pullout -- so many "experts" have been saying that this was a wise move, that Israel was simply moving back to defensible borders that would make it safer in the long run, but now that I see what is going on there, and how scandalously callous this policy is, and also how Iran, Al Qaeda and Hamas are already set to move in and make this their Terror Central I wonder what in the world Sharon is thinking? I have heard that he is pushing this policy in order to avoid corruption charges that have been leveled against him -- kind of an Israeli "Wag the Dog" scenario. Whatever is going on, I have changed my mind and we would do well to keep our eye on what happens there over the next week, if we can get some coverage of any news besides Natalee Holloway. It's simply outrageous to me that we get so little foreign and terror news and instead are fed a diet of pap and pop culture and tragedy TV. The media fiddles while the world is close to calamity.
