Keep digging -- there's bound to be a Dan Rather in there somewhere

By Aussiegirl

Dan Rather must be crushed that he wasn't the first one to break this story.
Check out Captain's Quarters for the latest skinny on what now appear to be fake but accurate Downing Street memos.

According to the reporter who broke the story, Michael Smith, he destroyed the originals and retyped them on plain paper -- using an old manual typewriter. You just can't make this stuff up.

What is still unclear, however, is if there was a cattle auction involved in the passing of the memos, or if they were passed at a session of the Antique Road Show, this being Britain, after all.
