Aussies react to racial violence

By Aussiegirl

Looks like the trouble in the Sydney suburban beach town of Cronulla has been brewing for some time. Here is a representative sample of the local opinion. The problem really is that Muslims in Australia are refusing to assimilate and instead are demanding that Australians cater to their cultural ways. This particular beach town and suburb of Sydney has evidently suffered from a long-term problem of Lebanese gangs coming in on trains and harrassing the locals with insults and jeers, and most recently an attack on two white lifeguards who had told a bunch of rowdy Muslims to tone down their volleyball game. The Muslims have reportedly called little girls in bathing suits "tarts", insulted pregnant women who are on the beach and wearing bathing suits, and demanding that Aussie women who swim near them cover their bodies. In addition it appears that the Aussies have been overindulging in the multicultural nonsense which suppresses the mainstream cultural beliefs (no Christmas lights, no Christmas carols, etc.) for fear of offending minorities.

This is an inevitable outcome of rage and a feeling of helplessness. If governments do not act, and instead try to suppress the mainstream culture out of some idiotic idea of not offending minorities they stand the real danger of inciting just this sort of mob violence. Australia has successfully integrated a wide variety of peoples from many racial and ethnic backgrounds in a relatively short time since WWII. My family were really the first "New Australians", and I have written elsewhere on the warm welcome we received and the efforts we made to assimilate ourselves and to become true "New Australians". Unfortunately, political correctness, the madness of multiculturalism and the general trend of the leftist mindset has changed all that -- along with the penchant for Muslims to arrogantly refuse to assimilate but instead to demand that the mainstream culture accomodate and subjugate themselves to their primitive cultural ways. These trends are inevitably coming to a head in France, and now in Australia. These are the first shots being fired in the culture wars that will soon engulf the entire western world as Muslims extend their reach and enlarge their sense of entitlement. Bombs and terror are not the only way they plan to defeat Western Civilization.

The Advertiser: Reader reaction to the riots [12dec05]

I'm an Australian with Chinese heritage. I think what happened at Cronulla is shameful and un-Australian. I'm proudly singing "We are Australian" because that is what Australia is and we should be proud of it. On the other hand, I also urge the Muslim community to behave better as their attitude recently such as preaching violence and jihad, praising Osama bin Laden, making awful comments about women wearing mini skirts, etc has sparked tension with other communities. We are a very heterogenous society and each community should respect each other.

Comment: I'm a Greek-Australian, so what makes me so un-Australian? Is it because my grandparents were immigrants? I wonder if all those people down in Cronulla yesterday realised that they are all immigrant decedents as well??? Or doesn't that count? What a joke. I don't believe that innocent people should have to pay for other people's mess or ignorance.

Comment: This is absolutely disgusting. Anyone so stupid and ignorant to participate in racially-motivated violence does not deserve to touch our Australian flag. I will also say that this must be a by-product of the continual scare tactics used by the Howard Government to subdue and scare us into thinking we are all at risk of terrorism. Which the media takes hook, line and sinker.

Comment: This problem has been brewing for months if not years whilst various Premiers and Police Commissioners have buried their heads in the sand of political correctness and refused to even identify by nationality and religion the gangs who have been terrorising Cronulla (and other suburbs). You cannot solve a problem if you refuse to admit it exists, Mr Premier. Agreed, yesterday at Cronulla got out of hand thanks to the usual small number of rent-a-mob idiots but the vast majority of the crowd simply want their suburb back.

Comment: They deserve it. I'm sick of being racially targeted by immigrants because I'm Australian. It's about time the shoe was on the other foot and they experience what it is to be intimidated and hurt by a gang

Comment: Australia had always DEMANDED that other races assimilate into their society. Last Sunday's action is typical of Australians' tolerance of people from different parts of the world. In some part of Sydney, Australian's treat people speaking in a foreign language as criminals. This red-neck attitude is an inherited problem from generations past. The beach community needs to wake up to themselves and understand that the beach is not theirs alone. Anyone who pays TAX in Australia is entitled to these facilities.

Comment: I am from Cronulla, and yes we have been experiencing this "gang" intimidation for years down there and everyone in the local community is sick to death but that does not excuse the disgusting events that unfolded. I have no doubt that most of the people at this riot were uneducated fools from all areas of Sydney. It's such a shame that a beautiful peaceful beachside suburb has become to poster area for this violence. All those thugs from all their areas of Sydney will go back to their homes and Cronulla will no doubt face the repercussions in same way or another. God knows what violence this is going to cause down the track for the local people of Cronulla once all the idiots have gone back to their homes and get over their hangovers!

Comment: The riots are bad I agree, but it needs to be stated they were a REACTION to a previous attack on locals at the beach by the people targeted in the riots. If they hadn't done that, then the riots wouldn't have occurred. Violence causes more violence. If police actually did something to remove society of trouble makers, things like this would not occur. This country is sinking.

Comment: Alcohol - once again the abuse of this drug has fuelled untold violence and mayhem. Big men when they hide behind the bottle.

Comment: What do we expect when, for the last 30 years, Australia has unrelentingly pursued multiculturalism, a political and social policy that actively encourages diversity. History has proven that diversity only leads to disunity and disharmony.

From: Mick
Comment: Living in Queensland and observing via the media, I can understand the level of concern when it appears these Arab-Australians just seem to want to replicate the traditions of their homelands. Their attitude is abhorrent to the average Australian and they perpetuate their snub to society by setting out to damage cars etc.

The final product of Multiculturalism is the dysfunction we see here. Countries commit suicide when they institutionalize multiculturalism.

Let families celebrate their heritage privately - the govt should NEVER get into the culture business because this is its outcome.

Australian economy is growing because of multiculturism..The original aussies are basically convicts. So genetically thier mind set is like convicts. Its in thier DNA.Unless the government helps new immigrants ,,these kinds of problem will never end.Australia is the only country in the world without any culture,,lol.
