Birdblog on Iranian intervention in Iraq

By Aussiegirl

Tim Birdnow writes a great column referencing Michael Ledeen's article about Iran's intervention in Iraq and the need to ensure a democratic revolution in Iran.

I too have been advocating fomenting an internal regime change in Iran, it's the only feasible option we have given the fact that Iran's nuclear capabilities are deeply buried and widely dispersed.

It was done in Poland with Solidarity by the coordinated efforts of Maggie Thatcher, Ronald Reagan and the Pope, it was done in El Salvador and Nicaragua also by Reagan, it can be done in Iran where the vast majority of the young population hates the mullahs and their autocratic and anti-democratic rule.

There may also be elements in the military who see Ahmadinejad's fantasizing of the his role as the ruler of a new world order as a little dangerous. Unfortunately, everything I hear from groups in touch with dissidents within Iran is that the U.S. has NO policy in place to aid pro-democracy forces. This is simply unacceptable and completely baffling.

The administration's plan seems to be to hope for a regime change before Iran goes nuclear, or perhaps they are counting on Russia (old blue-eyes Pootie-Poot himself, the one with the deep, deep soul) to act as the moderating force. Good luck. Russia is not our friend and never will be.

Birdblog

The incomparable Michael Ledeen explains Iranian intervention in Iraq, and why our incompetent intelligence community keeps calling them insurgents.

I`ve said it before, and I`ll say it again; Iran and Syria are the reason why the ``insurgency`` in Iraq continues, and we are going to have to deal with them if we are to establish a stable Iraqi democracy. Whenever we launch major offensives, we always bomb groups along the Syrian border. Why? Because they are hiding in Syria (along with Saddam`s chemical weapons.) Meanwhile, Iran maintains a revolving door policy while forging onward with her nuclear program.
