One universe or many?

By Aussiegirl

I recently ran across World Science, a very interesting website that tracks news concerning all aspects and fields of science. As an example of a good story from the March 30 issue, here's a discussion of the truly mindboggling concept of the existence of multiple universes. It's a very worthwhile site to visit frequently, since science is such a vast subject with so many researchers working in so many areas.

One universe or many? Panel debates

Scientific debates are as old as science. But in science, “debate” usually means a battle of ideas in general, not an actual, politician-style duel in front of an audience.

Occasionally, though, the latter also happens. And when the topic is as esoteric as the existence of multiple universes, sparks can fly.

According to one proposal, new universes could sprout like bubbles off a spacetime "foam" that's not unlike soap bubbles.
