Remembering Ronald Reagan

By Aussiegirl

There are many things in life I thank God for, not least of which is being in this great country of America and participating in its unequaled experiment in human freedom and dignity in all the history of mankind.

But one of the greatest gifts has surely been to be privileged to live through the momentous events of history that Ronald Reagan led us through, and to have witnessed his grace, dignity, wisdom, humanity, humor, and his unparalleled leadership in perilous times. The world would be a very different and far more dangerous place without him. He was unquestionably one of the towering figures of the 20th Century -- and perhaps in our entire history.

I know we all feel his absence in a very personal and painful way. It is almost a strange thing that when we loved him, and again when we lost him, we felt as though we had lost a dear and close relative.

Today, on the anniversary of Ronald Reagan's birth, we mark the day with a mixture of joy and sadness. Joy and happiness to remember and relive those wonderful times that we shared while he was with us, and sorrow that he has passed away from us. But we know that he lies in the embrace of the Everlasting Father, who gave him to us.

May he rest in peace.

We shall not see his like again.
